Join us for TalkPoverty LIVE! October 9th: 3 Policies Moving Forward
On Thursday, October 9 from 2:00 p.m. ET to 2:50 p.m. ET, please join TalkPoverty.org—online via Google Hangouts—as we discuss poverty in America and
what we can do about it.
With the recent release of the latest Census poverty and income data, we will be discussing three important policy solutions that we know will increase economic security and that are currently gaining momentum. These policy solutions are:
- Raising the minimum wage along with strengthening the earned income tax credit, or EITC;
- Addressing erratic work schedules to make it possible to balance work and family;
- Reforming the criminal justice system and re-entry policies so that criminal records do not commit people or their families to a life of poverty.
Our TalkPoverty LIVE! panel includes:
- Jared Bernstein: Senior Fellow at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities and former Chief Economist and Economic Advisor to Vice President Biden
- Jodie Levin-Epstein: Deputy Director of the Center for Law and Social Policy
- Daryl Atkinson: Staff Attorney at the Southern Coalition for Social Justice
- Rebecca Vallas: Moderator; Associate Director of the Poverty to Prosperity Program at the Center for American Progress
In addition to our featured guests, we will rely on YOU—your insights and questions—offered through tweets to @TalkPoverty with the hashtag #talkpovertylive and posts on the TalkPoverty.org Facebook page during the conversation.
On October 9th, from 2:00 to 2:50 p.m. ET, come to this page and join the conversation. We look forward to your participation!
